I went to Comic-Con/NYAF this past weekend. It was pretty awesome. Yay!
I saw the standard cosplayers; there were so many Lightning's and Yukiko's and Ramona's of different shapes/colors/sizes, it was pretty nuts. But I actually liked a lot of the costumes I saw; it's awesome how much effort some of these people put in, and how much confidence they had, wearing skimpy outfits and posing for picture after picture. I know I took pictures!
I also got to see the first ever New York screening of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya on Friday. I was really excited for that, but man, the other people in the room were obnoxious as HECK. They laughed at every little thing, even if it wasn't all that funny; they applauded everything, too. It was insane. I mean, I loved being around a whole room full of people who I knew loved the same anime that I did, but they were so irritating. This girl we sat next to laughed so loudly and annoyingly, and this guy we sat behind waved to the voice actors who hosted the panel and I think he was dressed up as an InuYasha character or something and it was horrible. Towards the end of the movie -SPOILER ALERT- Kyon (main character) got stabbed out of the blue and everyone started laughing and clapping. How is that funny or applause-worthy whatsoever? They were taking me out of it, and it nearly ruined it for me. I still really enjoyed the movie but I hope I can see it in the comfort of my own home soon.
I wanted to go to the Square Enix panel, also, but it was full. Other things I wanted to do: play the games! Nintendo's booth had Kirby's Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country, Wii Party, and some other games that I really wanted to try but I never got the chance. I watched some guys play Kirby for awhile and it looked so gorgeous and cute, though. I really want it! Now.
I did get to play a little bit of Okamiden, but I had no clue what was going on. It did look really cute, though. I got a poster, a little mask-type thing, and some Chibiterasu silly bands from the Capcom area, which was nice. I wanted to play Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and get a poster, but that game was one of the most popular there, and I think you could only get a poster from one of the signings, which I didn't go to. Oh well.
SPEAKING OF SIGNINGS, I am a sucker for being in the presence of celebrities, so you can imagine how happy I was to MEET THREE (KIND OF MINOR BUT OH WELL) CELEBRITIES! :D I met Patrick Cassels, who works for Collegehumor.com, and got his autograph and a picture with him; he was so nice! Then I got a picture with and an autograph from Judah Friedlander (Frank on 30 Rock), which was pretty awesome, too. He told me to "stay sexy." Hilarious. And the best one of all was meeting Scott Adsit (!!!!! Pete on 30 Rock) who was on his way to the Delocated panel despite not really having anything to do with it! I got his autograph and told him that I loved 30 Rock and Moral Orel and once I mentioned the latter his eyes just lit up and he looked at me and said, "Thank you! I really appreciate that!" And then he asked me if I had seen Delocated and I said that I hadn't but I wanted to and he told me to check it out. AND I DID. And it was okay. It had Todd Barry in it which was great because I love Todd Barry. I also love Scott Adsit!! I wish I'd gotten a picture with him, but at least I'll always have the memory.
Even though I'm the cheapest person around I forced myself to buy stuff: tons and tons of pins, a Scott Pilgrim sticker, and a Scott Pilgrim t-shirt. The Oni Press booth had a ton of cool Scott stuff, and I wanted to get the wristbands but they said "July 2010" on them and were from SDCC, so I decided against it. Also, my wrists are too big for wristbands, anyway. ;_; At least I got the shirt! And a sticker! And I wanted to buy a book from there, Hopeless Savages, but it was $20 and I decided against it. They had a nice booth though. Pretty cool times. Oh, and the pins I got included a Pokeball, a Harvest Moon pin, a Spirited Away pin, a TON of adorable Inception pins, and super cute Wallace and Kim pins. I wanted to get Scott but he was sold out. You know, the only Scott thing I got that actually HAD Scott on it was the sticker. Too bad.
On Saturday night we decided to take a cab to the train station, and we managed to get a stretch limo. It was amazing. We went with these two random people we met; one of them was wearing a green suit. They were also amazing. We paid $30 for 8 people to take a stretch limo from the Javits Center to Grand Central. It was -- guess! -- amazing.
So that was my Comic-Con experience. It was tons of fun. I want to go next year. Can next year be tomorrow? Please? I hope I can meet Scott Adsit again and take a picture with him this time! But any celebrity will do. Please celebrities! Come find me and give me your autographs!

Top Chef: Just DRAMA (Or A Pun to That Effect)
MAN. MAN! Major stuff just went down on Top Chef: Just Desserts, man! AND I AM STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF PROCESSIN'. THIS MAY TAKE A MOMENT.
[a moment]
Okay!
So if you haven't been watching, then you don't know who Seth is. This is sad. I pity you. Seth is one of the greatest gifts television has received since whatever that last greatest gift was. (Alec Baldwin, maybe?) Seth was the mentally ill guy with obvious mommy issues who managed to have a meltdown about everything. "Hey, Seth, pass me that spoon, would you?" "Spoon? What are you talking about? Who do you think I am? I can't work like this! I CAN'T WORK LIKE THIS! SOMEONE HOLD ME! I NEED A CREAMSICLE AND A HUG RIGHT. NOW. MOMMY!" Or perhaps, "Seth, I think you are a talented pastry chef." "WELL YOU KNOW WHAT YOU CAN GO [censored] YOUR [censored] [censored] AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE MAN? I DON'T NEED THIS. I'M GONNA GET ME A FINANCIER AND A SAMMICH AND I'LL SEE YOU IN A FEW MINUTES OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE THERE REALLY ISN'T ANYWHERE TO GO, SO, YEAH."
Yes, that is Seth in a nutshell. Obviously, he is hysterical. How I adore laughing at the mentally unstable on TV! This is what America's about, baby! HECK YEAH AMERICA. While the show has a lot of other good qualities (I mean, it has the word "dessert" in the title; there's no way you can get me to NOT watch it unless "dessert" is preceded by "Twilight-Inspired" or "Very Unappetizing," although I'd probably watch the latter anyway because I'm bored), the best thing about it was quite obviously Seth's really, really demented persona that was unclear as to whether or not it was put on.
Today's episode, which I'm still in the middle of watching, started with what was an excellently absurd tantrum brought to us by our bro. The Quickfire Challenge was to use ice cream and other items to make a sundae. "Can we make our own ice cream?" neurotic Seth asked once Gail stopped yapping about how "we have Breyer's! *smile for the camera* ice cream!" "NO, SETH. YOU CAN'T. WHAT ARE YOU, STUPID? LIKE. WHAT," responded Gail, still smiling for the camera while modeling a carton of Breyer's! ice cream. (Please note: I love Gail, she rules.)
Seth, like any sensible human being would when faced with the fact that there are no options but Breyer's!, proceeded to flip out.
All of the other contestants (yes, oddly enough, there are people on the show OTHER than just Seth!) rolled their eyes and chanted all of the curses of death that they could remember in their heads as Seth screamed "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO COOK WITH THAT [censored] [censored]?! MY MOMMY WOULD NOT APPROVE!" Then, trying to ease back onto the ground, Seth looked for "his" paper cups. "Hey. Where the [censored] [censored] are my paper cups?!" [/Arrested Development reference, although he seriously said this, basically] Since Seth could not find his paper cups, he obviously could never function like a normal person ever again. So, he walked out of the room.
Everyone cheered; Yigit was as ecstatic as a person named Yigit can get; Zac's face was as pink as his ascot; that Muppet Danielle grimaced, which in her language is a sign of pleasure; Eric continued to look far older than he actually is, but regardless, he was happy.
But then Yigit, who has inordinately large ears (as well as amounts of screen time), heard sirens. "SIRENS? WHAT?! HOW COULD THIS BE? Does this mean we're actually in the real world and not Just Desserts Land like Bravo told us? SO I COULD HAVE BEEN CALLING MY MOM? Lame." But the sirens not only let us know that there was a real world out there, but that also, Seth kind of had an anxiety attack and was lying on the ground. The ambulance came and he claimed to have "never had an anxiety attack before." Right, Seth. Right.
Seth got taken away and things started to feel weird. Would he come back? Would neighborhood children from that savage, cruel real world pelt the ambulance with pastries? The answers, in order, are NO and LIKE I KNOW, WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT?
That's right. Seth got taken away in the ambulance and was "not deemed fit to compete any longer." Apparently NO ONE HAD EVER SEEN THE FOOTAGE FROM THE PREVIOUS THREE EPISODES, BUT OKAY. How this man passed any mental health test is beyond me, first of all, but because of this anxiety attack, Seth was gone, and so was my love for the show.
Johnny came in to tell the chefs what had happened. Unfortunately, he assumed that they would care and feel badly. He was quite wrong.
Johhny: "Hey guys. Sorry to tell you this, but Seth just got taken in an ambulance and won't be coming back. He had an anxiety attack so he's no longer fit to compete."
Everyone else: "Hooray! Now our non-existent personalities will get some screen time! And now we won't have anyone to make fun of anymore!"
Johnny: "Wait, so you're happy about this?"
Everyone else: "Of course we are! Now, let's go back to work! We want to make ice cream sundaes and play with each other's hair and smoosh cake all over each other's faces because we're feeling playful and fun! SUNSHINE!"
It was horrible and pathetic and it made me sad. Top Chef: Just Desserts is Top Chef: Sans All of the Fun That Makes You Want to Watch. Goodbye, Seth. I'll miss you and your disturbing sociopathic antics. SO MUCH.
Picture found here.
EDIT: Apparently it was not as obvious to people other than myself that Seth was merely a character; the likelihood that the Seth that exists outside of Top Chef is nearly as disturbed or even "mentally ill" as he appears to be on the show is low. OF COURSE I don't find REAL "mentally ill" people entertaining in the slightest; it's called a joke, pathetic, mediocre, exploitative, or unfunny it may be.
If you find this rant boring, pathetic, or you thought that Seth's treatment on the show was exploitative, then, well, why are you reading, anyway? Please go use your time more productively while I go cough like a Japanese schoolgirl. "Cough desu! COUGH DESU!" *dramatic sigh*

I'll Admit It, I Laughed
That's "The Miley Cyrus Show" from last night's SNL. I didn't watch it live (1. I can't stay awake that late, and 2. why would I do that, anyway? Not even for you, Bryan Cranston), but AOL alerted me to this clip's existence.
Honestly? It was pretty funny. This chick was obviously nervous but she REALLY sounds like Miley Cyrus. SO MUCH. And her face! SHE MADE THAT MILEY FACE AND SHE MADE IT WELL.
The "Goodbye, Jeff" clip at the end was the best part. I mean, these Miley Cyrus jokes are kind of obvious and dull but this girl did a good job. I also enjoyed BCrans as Billy Ray. They'll undoubtedly make this into a recurring sketch, and I'm actually sort of looking forward to it. At least until it becomes really stupid and repetitive. Which is inevitable. Sigh.

"Oh REAL-O?" And Other Things You May Not Understand Yet
Last night's 30 Rock was stinking amazing (contrary to what that idiot who writes the recaps on TWOP says. C+? Are you on drugs? Are you mentally ill? Or are you just really that dumb?). SO GOOD. I have high hopes for this season and I wish they would just release it on DVD right now for me to watch and re-watch forever.
Why don't you take the next 20 minutes to watch it? It's truly worth it. Highlights: Ritchie's Civil War re-enactment skills, Tracy playing Cash Cab, JACK BEING JACK-ISH, LIZ BEING LIZ-ISH (Seriously, the "Oh real-o? I meant to say really, I misspoke, continue" line is my absolute favorite), Dr. Leo Spaceman!, the fact that Pete is there being awesome (they should keep giving him more screen time!), and just basically everything.
Just in case you were wondering about the other Thursday Night NBC shows, well, I don't watch Community anymore so don't ask about that, and I watched The Office this afternoon (having passed on it live for Project Runway, which was pretty crazy dramatic and man did those outfits suck). It was not funny. I can't remember laughing more than twice. Pretty pathetic way to go out, The Office. Although I like the idea that Michael may be fired for his "homicidal potential" (severe, says the ever-pudgier Toby).
I'll leave you alone so you can watch 30 Rock in peace, the only sound being your own uproarious laughter.

A Random Video for My Entertainment
I am really tired, so I don't really want to write a whole fancy post. SORRY! So here's an amusing video with my good friend Anderson Cooper (we are seriously best buds; he just doesn't know it yet) and Cam'ron, who apparently is a really popular rapper although I don't think I've ever heard of any of his music ever in my life.
Whatever. It's amusing.
Yes, Cam'ron. If there's a serial killer next door, just move away silently. Let the new neighbors deal with him! You are such an upstanding citizen. (Oh, brother.)

To all of the places that I have known!
This song has been stuck in my head a lot lately. It's so crazy, I enjoy it immensely.
In other news, I have to go watch a new episode of Top Chef: Just Desserts and the new and quite good drama Lone Star just got cancelled after two episodes. Sad. Although I guess I shouldn't have expected much; it's critically-acclaimed and aired on FOX. So... :(
Well, um, good night. Ed is a por-TAAAAAAL!

As If You Needed Another Reason to Love Tim Gunn
I hate Taylor Momsen. I hate, hate, hate, hate her. Yes, perhaps it's pointless to hate some celebrity whom I've never met and is only a couple of months older than me, but I just can't stand people like her, regardless of their celebrity status or not. They're completely aggravating, they make other people their age look similarly worthless, and they're so stinking full of themselves, it makes me want to puke my chicken Gorgonzola all over their faces.
Thankfully, Tim Gunn seems to feel the same way:
Also, if she would like to go buy a pair of PANTS, I'd be happy to go with her and help pick them out.
Thankfully, Tim Gunn seems to feel the same way:
"What a diva!" he told E! News of the 17-year-old. "She was pathetic, she couldn't remember her lines, and she didn't even have that many. I thought to myself 'why are we all being held hostage by this brat?"Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Tim. What an annoying little brat this privileged girl is. Maybe I'm not the most thankful around, but god darnit it all, if I got to be on some kind of TV show, even one as frivolous and dull as Gossip Girl, I'd be plenty thankful, because that is so many people's DREAM. Taylor needs to stop taking it for advantage.
... "I'd say, 'You know young lady, there are hundreds of thousands of girls who are just as attractive and even smarter than you. Why are you acting like this show is a huge burden on you?' She was on her phone during every break, I wanted to tell her, 'If you weren't on your BlackBerry, you can retain this stuff.' ''
Gunn says that he's not trying to assassinate her character, but that she annoyed the director and the entire crew.
"I learned from teaching to stick with the topic, I don't get involved in character appraisals," Gunn explained. "I'd just ask her 'do you want to share with me why you're always on your phone?' At one point the director leaned in and whispered to me, 'this is day in, day out, my life.' She annoyed the entire crew."
Also, if she would like to go buy a pair of PANTS, I'd be happy to go with her and help pick them out.
